About Bill



Bill West has lived and worked in South Shields all his life, after attending Barnes Road, Brinkburn and Chuter Ede Schools, he became a postal worker at South Shields.

In 1977 Bill joined the Fire Service and spent the next 30 years serving mostly in South Tyneside. He retired in 2007. During this period he discovered photography which started as a hobby but quickly became a passion.

Bills love of photography is now his job, taking weddings and portraits, but mainly concentrating on landscapes of his home town, and the North of England.

Bill has gained a licentiate membership of the prestigious Master Photographers Association (MPA) and in February 2009 the MPA presented Bill with three North East Photographic awards, one of these was ‘North East Pictorial Photographer of the year’.

In October 2009 Bill entered four landscape pictures into the MPA national awards and received highly acclaimed certificates of merit for all four prints.
